Sepiolite fiber is a natural mineral fiber and a fibrous variant of sepiolite mineral called α-sepiolite. According to experts, sepiolite is a layered chain silicate mineral. In the structure, two layers of siloxane tetrahedron are sandwiched with a layer of magnesia octahedron to form a 2:1 layered structural unit. The tetrahedral layer is continuous, and the orientation of the active oxygen in the layer is reversed periodically. The octahedral layer forms a channel in which the upper and lower layers are arranged. The orientation of the channels is consistent with the fiber axis, allowing water molecules, metal cations, small organic molecules, etc. to enter. Sepiolite has good heat resistance, sepiolite also has good ion exchange and catalytic properties, and excellent properties such as corrosion resistance, radiation resistance, insulation and heat insulation, especially Si-OH energy and organic matter in its structure. Direct reaction produces organic mineral derivatives.
In its structural unit, the silicon oxytetrahedron and the magnesia octahedron alternate with each other, and have a layered and chain-like transitional feature. Sepiolite has unique physical and chemical properties, high specific surface area (up to 800-900m / g), large porosity, and strong adsorption and catalytic capabilities.
CHOICE FOR DRILLING:
The sepiolite clay has good pulping properties in brine, and the pH of the suspension is adjusted to 9-10 with NaOH to greatly increase the viscosity. In the drilling experiment carried out in the Nanhai Oilfield, the clay was successfully used to replace the bentonite which is not suitable for seawater pulping, and high-quality thick mud and cationic mud were prepared, and the drilling could reach 2730m.
